Licensing
BEdita employs a dual licensing scheme, offering customers a choice of either an open source license or a commercial license.
BEdita is therefore available in two flavors:
- an open source version released under Affero General Public License 3 – for open source applications released under and respecting the same license
- a proprietary version, released commercially by the copyright owners – it contains advanced modules and a commercial license is needed to create derivative commercial software based on BEdita.
This business model is employed successfully by many companies, like MySQL, Qt (Trolltech), Asterisk, Berkley DB (Oracle) and more.
Licensing in brief
- open source Affero GPL 3
- proprietary for derivative commercial software
