BEdita | Semantic Content Management Framework

    FAQ

What are the license/use terms of BEdita?

BEdita is available in two different versions: a free/open source AGPL v3 version for creating free/open source applications and a commercial/proprietary version to build commercial/proprietary solutions. If you intend to use the free/open source version beware to respect the license terms, in general take a look a the GNU FAQ and this ovverview on OSS Watch.

Can I use BEdita to create sites for a client?

For commercial applications/solutions you have to purchase the proprietary version of BEdita. Anyway, take a look at the preceeding answer if you intend to use the free/open source version.

I can't find any frontend? Where is it?

BEdita has been designed/created as a framework, not a real CMS: handles many types of contents in an advanced way, but there's no builtin default frontend (until now).

Frontend applications could vary, in our opinion there is not a predictable way to build such a frontend: it may not to be a Web application at all, for instance. You can find a very minimal frontend, just to give you an idea in the bedita-front directory.

I have some problems running/deploying BEdita? What do I do?

BEdita is at the moment alpha state software, there are probably some setup problems on some platforms. Anyway we strongly suggest you to read carefully the INSTALL file or the online documentation. Since BEdita is built upon the CakePHP framework most likely your setup problems are Cake-related, so please take a look at the documentation and at the various cake resources. If you are deploying BEdita on a server in housing/hosting read carefully the minimum requirements (INSTALL file), not always they are fullfilled.

Is there a user mailing list and a collaborative environment [like a wiki, issue tracker, trac...] for the project?

We don't have at the moment mailing lists or forums for users and external developers interested in BEdita. We will create them following feedback and suggestions we will receive. Same applies for collaborative systems like wiki o issue trackers.
